August has settled over the garden with long, sunny days and baskets that seem to fill almost as quickly as Basil can empty them! This month, he’s chosen two summertime classics that love the heat: juicy tomatoes and sweet watermelon.
🍅 Tomatoes
Warm from the vine and bursting with flavor, August tomatoes are hard to beat. Pick them when they’re fully colored but still firm, and give them a gentle twist from the vine. Slice them for sandwiches, toss them into salads, simmer them into sauces, or enjoy one fresh from the garden with just a little salt.
🍉 Watermelon
Nothing says summer quite like cutting into a cool, crisp watermelon on a hot August afternoon. Look for a creamy yellow field spot and a melon that feels heavy for its size. Once harvested, chill it down and enjoy it fresh—or turn that sweet, juicy fruit into something completely unexpected.
Then we’ll take them from the plot to the pot!
This month, our Plot to Pot crew will turn Basil’s tomatoes and watermelon into four delicious recipes. Let’s see what they come up with!
August is serving up the very best of summer! Basil has brought us baskets of ripe, juicy tomatoes and sweet, refreshing watermelon, and now it’s time to see what happens when they leave the garden and head into the kitchen.
This month, our cooks are taking those two summertime favorites in four very different directions. We’ll have something savory, something snackable, something cool and refreshing, and—because this crew can never leave well enough alone—probably something we never expected. 😂
Four recipes. Two fresh August picks. One very hungry taste-testing crew.
Let’s take those tomatoes and watermelon From the Plot to the Pot! ❤️
