🌱 Basil’s April Garden Picks

April has arrived, and Basil has chosen two spring garden favorites — asparagus and rhubarb!

First up is asparagus, one of the earliest vegetables to make its appearance in the spring garden. It takes a little patience to get an asparagus bed established, but treat those roots well and they can reward you with fresh green spears for 15–20 years or more.

Then there’s rhubarb — and Basil has a little confession to make. We’re calling it April’s featured “fruit,” but rhubarb is actually a vegetable! Its tart stalks are treated like fruit in the kitchen, turning up in everything from pies and crumbles to jams and refreshing drinks.

Follow Basil’s garden guides to learn how to plant, grow, care for, and harvest both of April’s picks — plus a few of his favorite tidbits and ideas for putting that spring harvest to work in the kitchen.
